| In 2006, Jay Ablah's Noble Petroleum began developing a geological plan before drilling a new well in the Nemaha Ridge in northeast Kansas. The price of oil at the time was about $55 a barrel. The Wichita company began drilling in August. Oil was discovered at 3,650 feet and quickly popped for 80 barrels a day.
