CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 27, 2008 -- Southern National Bancorp of Virginia Inc. announced today a net loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2008 of $757 thousand after the recognition of an "Other than Temporary Impairment" on Freddie Mac perpetual preferred stock owned by the Company, on which we had taken impairment charges in December 2007 and June 2008.
